”Finnish communication development Ltd”.
Suomen Viestintäkehitys was an investment company, which was started in 1988 by Panostaja. It participated in the battle of control of the Finnish regional newspapers. The company had large stakes of several publishing houses, such as Savon Sanomain Kirjapaino Oy, Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus Oy, Ilkka Oy, Aamulehti-yhtymä Oy and Vaasa Oy.
That kind of activity was seen as ”unwanted occupying”, and the publishers fought back by buying stakes of each other. Viestintäkehitys was bought in 1989 by ”white knight” Pro Lehdistö (Pro Press), and closed it in 1991. Still today the newspaper publishing business in Finland is very cross-owned.
The share of Suomen Viestintäkehitys was listed in the Helsinki Stock Exchange from 1989 to 1990.
Nature of business: Investment, business development in newspaper business.
