A famous newspaper publisher, which was established in 1919. It released newspaper Uusi Suomi until 1991. The predecessors of the paper were Uusi Suometar and Suometar, which had started to come out already in 1847 as the first Finnish language paper. Name of the paper and company means ”The New Finland”.
Uusi Suomi published also a tabloid Iltalehti. In 1958 Uusi Suomi bought the economy newspaper Kauppalehti, which is still the only daily business paper in Finland.
However, since the 1970’s business of the company remained unprofitable. Finally in 1988 Uusi Suomi Oy with all its paper was merged into Aamulehti Group (now Alma Media). The last printed Uusi Suomi came out in 1991.
In 2007 Mr. Niklas Herlin bought the trademark Uusi Suomi from Alma Media. Later he started an Internet magazine called uusisuomi.fi, which still exists.
The share of Uusi Suomi was listed in the Helsinki Stock Exchange from 1981 to 1989.
