An old tobacco factory of Strengberg was started already in 1762, when chemist Lars Blom got licence for tobacco manufacturing. The initials Ph. U. of Strengberg are reminding from Mr. Philip Ulric, who was the director of the factory since 1845.
Tobacco family of Rettig bought the majority of Strengberg in 1940, but manufacturing of Strengberg continued much the same further. In 1976 Strengberg was merged into Rettig concern. In 1995 Rettig decided to sell all of its cigarette business to American R. J. Reynolds and further to Swedish Match. New owner closed the honourable factory in 1998, after production of 236 years.
